Advance in light-matter interaction and spectroscopy
Chair: Hiroshi UJI-ILight has inspired researchers for centuries. From infrared to X-ray, light is an indispensable tool for probing materials in gas phase to condensed matters. Recent advance in light microscopy and in nanomaterials allows us to look into inside of mystery in chemistry, medicine and biology. In this session, advanced use of light microscopy and nanomaterials will be discussed.

Collective and population dynamics in complex systems
Chair: Hiroshi TERAMOTOThanks to the developments of modelling, simulation and experimental technologies, it is becoming possible to model complex systems consisting of highly heterogeneous elements, simulate them and compare them with observed data. However, understanding such complex systems has been an outstanding challenge. In this session, we invite three expertees of mathematics, modelling, simulation and experiment to discuss collective and population dynamics in complex systems.

Polarity in biology and soft matter
Chair: Katsuhiko SATOIn biological systems and soft matters, polarity of elements comprising the system plays an important role in determining and/or contributing to the properties of the whole system. For example, in multicellular organisms, the polarity at the cellular level is transmitted to at the tissue level and contributes to the body plan of the organisms. In materials science the polarity of the elements comprising the system can drastically change its properties of the material, such as stiffness and toughness. In this session, we present challenging topics that connect the properties of the elements and non-trivial resultant behaviors of the whole system in biology and soft matter physics.

Smart molecular system
Chair: Nobuyuki TAMAOKIChemists have been trying to synthesize various functional molecules. Among functions of molecules "smartness", namely, ability to process information is one of the ultimate goals (極) among the target functions for synthetic chemists. In this session we will discuss some recent efforts related to realization of the smart molecular systems including molecular memory, molecular transistor and molecular self-organization to form specific structures.
