The 2023 RIES-CEFMS Joint International Symposium (Research Institute for Electronic Science-Center for Emergent Functional Matter Science) was held at the Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention on Thursday, December 7 – Friday, December 8, 2023. The symposium was co-hosted by the five-star Alliance member institutes, Center for Emergent Functional Matter Science (CEFMS), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, and the Research Center for Applied Science (RCAS), Academia Sinica.

On the first day, the symposium was opened by Professor Vasudevan P. Biju, Chair of the Symposium Committee, Professor Kuniharu Ijiro, Director of the Research Institute for Electronic Science Hokkaido University, and Professor Chain-Shu Hsu of National Yang-Ming Jiao Tung University, followed by a poster session and free discussions, where young researchers discussed until late at night.
On the second day, three sessions were held in the morning, with lectures and Q&A sessions by participating researchers from each institute, leading to lively discussions.
The two-day symposium ended on a high note as a forum for international research exchange, especially among young researchers.
