The 25th RIES-HOKUDAI INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM 緯 (i) was held on December 10, 2024, at the Clark Memorial Student Center, Hokkaido University. This symposium is a joint event with the 9th International Symposium of Crossover Alliance to Create the Future with People, Intelligence and Materials (5-Star Alliance) and 5+2 International Joint Symposium, and it is partially linked to the Network Joint Research Center (NJRC) for Materials and Devices.
It has become a tradition for this international symposium to choose a Kanji character that symbolizes the year’s symposium. The Kanji selected for the 2024 Symposium is “緯” (i), which symbolizes the horizontal connection between the vertical lines of conventional and traditional teachings and disciplines.
Invited lectures were given by four researchers: Prof Katsuhiro Nishinari (Research Centre for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo), Prof Eriko Nango (Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University), Prof Shigeru Taguchi (Director, Center for Human Nature, Artificial Intelligence, and Neuroscience, Hokkaido University) and Prof Kaya Kobayashi (Research Institute for Electronic Science, Hokkaido University).
For the poster session, there were 62 poster presentations. As a new attempt, all poster presenters gave a 1-minute flash talk prior to their poster presentation.
The poster award winners were selected from among the student and research student poster presenters by votes from invited speakers and RIES staff. The award certificates were presented by Professor Toshiyuki Nakagaki, the Chair of the Symposium Organizing Committee.
