(3)Area of Specialization
In the group of Prof. Hideharu Mikami, we conduct life science-oriented research with a focus on optical imaging. We develop advanced technologies, apply them to life science, and carry out interdisciplinary researches in cooperation with other researchers in and outside the laboratory.
(4)Qualification
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or doctoral degree. The successful candidates will have a strong track record and expertise in one or more of the following fields: optics, information science, and life sciences, and will be willing to collaborate with researchers in different disciplines to conduct interdisciplinary research. We are particularly looking for candidates who can contribute to the development and application of optical measurement and analysis techniques (e.g., fluorescence microscopy, optogenetics) for the nervous system of higher organisms such as mice.
For example, we assume that candidates have experience in the following types of research. However, we prefer candidates who are willing to acquire knowledge and skills in peripheral fields necessary to carry out the research.

  • Research in the field of optics, such as optical microscopy and computational imaging.
  • Research on the analysis of images, neural activity data, etc. in the field of bioinformatics.
  • Research using optical imaging (e.g., fluorescence microscopy) in any field of life sciences.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to communicate smoothly with researchers inside and outside the laboratory, and work in collaboration and cooperation with them.

(5)Expected Start Date
March 1st, 2022, or later.
(6)Employment Status
The employment period cannot exceed 5 years from the initial date of hire (Reappointment for 3 years is possible depending on the results of an interim evaluation).

The salary will be determined in accordance with the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Employee Salary Rules. If the hiring date is after April 1, 2022, it shall be in accordance with the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Annual Salary System Faculty Salary Rules.
(9)Working Form
Discretionary labor system for professional work. The working hours for a day are deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes.
